Stonehenge Study

There is a place in town that has a replica of Stonehenge. When I first saw it I thought it would be fun to try to photograph.

It was fun, but also a challenge to frame it so you wouldn’t see buildings, cars, and telephone wires in the photo. It was pretty cold out there, so I may have to go back when it’s warmer and I have more time to play around with framing the photo. I also took two photos of the structure with my HOLGA, and am pretty excited to see how they turn out.

Yoshi

Wanna play?

Our dear sweet Yoshi went to the Rainbow Bridge tonight. We were with her and at home when she passed. She was quiet a fighter and tried so hard for the past month to recover. It’s very sad for us, but we are grateful that she is now whole and well, and able to run around and play again.

We will miss you terribly sweetheart.

7 Years!

It wasn’t the celebration we thought we would have, but we did celebrate our wedding anniversary this week. We spent the day worried over our sick little Yoshi and caring for her needs, but that didn’t stop us from having some lovely food. Plus, it really was a day spent in love, both for each other and our cute pet, and that’s what anniversaries are really about anyway, right?

strawberries

Yesterday I finally got around to making chocolate covered strawberries in honor of the day, and also a great Italian chicken recipe from 101 Things to Do with a Slow Cooker (super easy and very tasty, plus the slow cooker did all the hard work while I was trying to play catch up on other things). I was happily surprised at how sweet and good the strawberries were, especially this time of year.

It’s strange how fast time goes by, and yet at the same time it does feel like we have been married for even longer than just 7 years. One thing I hope to do for a milestone anniversary is to run off to Vegas and get hitched again. I think it would be a hoot (was hoping it would be this year, Lucky 7)… maybe for our 70th? :)

Thankful Thursdays 1

thankful

I wanted to start something… a day to think of and share 5 things that you are thankful for at that moment. They can be anything at all, from the very big to the very simple. I just feel like it’s important to remember all that surrounds us that is good and worth being thankful for. Gratitude is a powerful thing.

  1. Veterinarians. Obviously we have had a lot of contact with these wonderful souls recently in trying to help Yoshi recover.
  2. Moments of spring like weather. I am so very ready for spring, and the sunshine makes me so happy.
  3. Toilets. Under appreciated really, but boy are they great to have.
  4. A comfy couch. Been sleeping on the couch since Friday night because it is near Yoshi… to comfort her and to help her in the night. I am glad our couch is comfy.
  5. You. Reading your kind comments, visiting your blogs, it’s always so nice. Thank you!

I hope that you will join in with me in Thankful Thursdays. Participate on your own blog (feel free to use the image), or leave your list in the comments here if you prefer, or even just jot it down offline if that is more your style! I just hope you take a moment to recognize all the amazing things around you! :)

Missing Moscow

By Aimee, February 25, 2009 6:03 am

One of my major projects recently has been getting all of my old photo negatives onto CD. It is so nice to have a digital copy, and it has been so much fun to see old photos too. I have been looking at my photos from my trip to Russia. It’s hard to imagine that it will have been 16 years this summer since I went there. It was such an amazing trip, and going through the photos makes me want to return even more than before.

Moscow Cemetery

The first night we arrived we were actually supposed to travel on to Kazan, but our bus broke down and we missed our train. This gave us a day in Moscow (we did eventually return to Moscow for a longer period of time, but our first views of the city were on this day). We didn’t go to Red Square that day because our bus driver didn’t have a license to drive to that part of the city, but we did go to a cemetery. The photo is from that cemetery and is the grave marker for a heart surgeon.

I was in awe at how amazing the headstones were. They were all very sculptural and had a lot of meaning towards the person they represented. This was a cemetery for people who were “famous” in some form, so I often wondered what a regular cemetery would have looked like, but this one was gorgeous.
