Feng Shui

I have always been very interested in feng shui. I blame my dad (who just turned 72 by the way), for introducing me into the world of martial arts and the concept of chi. I grew up with the understanding that there is energy in everything, and that this energy can effect our well being. This is one reason I love the idea of creating your space intentionally. After all, we spend a lot of time in the places we live, we should make them a haven.
One of my favorite books on the subject of feng shui is called Clear Your Clutter With Feng Shui. It doesn’t go too much into all the aspects of feng shui, but rather gives an overview and more importantly, it talks about how our spaces can effect us on many levels and what kinds of things we can do to help correct those problems. Obviously clutter is one thing that can create obstacles both physically and in other ways as well.
I know that a lot of people take the time at the start of a new year to look at their physical spaces and get more organized, but an even better approach than trying to organize a lot of stuff is to just clear it out. It can be hard sometimes to get really honest and let go of things that we are not using, don’t love, or think we may need someday in the future, but it is really so worth the effort.
Anyway, if you are thinking of making some transformations to your home, you might want to check out this book. There are a lot of resources online as well… just don’t get too overwhelemed by some of the “cures”, but just do what feels best for your own home. Even we don’t have red tape around our toilet drain (though maybe in this economy we should!).
