Things I like this time of year.

I am not a big fan of winter (summer is much more my style), in fact, I am pretty sure that I need sunlight to maintain my sanity. We had a small skiff of snow this morning, and they say more is on the way tomorrow. I’m not ready for winter, but theses are the things that make it bearable.

  1. Wearing sweatshirts. Not something you can really do in the summer, but there is something so comfy about sweats and other warm clothing.
  2. Flannel pajamas. Super cute, and of course, totally good to have when the temperature drops below freezing.
  3. Hot chocolate. My guilty pleasure, complete with mini-marshmallows. It also reminds me of many times spent at the Galaxy Diner, sipping hot chocolate and chatting with my good friend Anna-Marie. Plus, hot chocolate is perfect for warming up on cold nights.
  4. Christmas. Unlike my hubby, I actually LOVE shopping for gifts. Of course we both love the music, the tasty treats, the fun decorations, and spending time with family.
  5. The crisp smell of snow. Also the way the sky looks at night when it is going to snow soon. Magic.

Fall 2009

A few photos of fall in our yard this year. First, our flowering pear tree, it turns the most wonderful shade of gold, with reds and pinks mixed in.

This bird nest was much bigger over the summer, but the birds have left for the coming winter. I wonder if they will come back and rebuild?

So many walnuts! And more to be gathered. These also need to be opened (and many of them are still in their husks). The walnut tree did well this year.

Walnuts galore

And lastly, a little afternoon sunshine coming through the leaves. It was more impressive in person, with the tree really lit up! Sadly, a camera can’t capture everything the way the eye can. Still very pretty though.

What is fall like in your neck of the woods?
