I am very lucky to have a wonderful husband who refers to my gray hairs as “highlights”. It’s a good thing, because they are plentiful, and seem to be multiplying faster than bunnies. Awhile back I got myself some hair dye in a shade close to my natural color. I haven’t used it yet though.
It’s funny, I used to dye my hair all the time. The first time I did it was in Jr. High for Halloween. I can’t remember what my costume was, but I picked a shade of red, and really thought my hair looked fun. It didn’t hurt that a boy I had a crush on at the time gave me a compliment, telling me that I reminded him of Kate Pierson of the B-52′s (one of my favorite bands). Since that first time my hair has been lots of shades, from blond to pink, and even unintentionally gray (a bad professional dye job), which resulted in black hair to try to cover it up. My poor hair, I really used to put it through the ringer.
Then sometime in it all I grew up and realized that people really do look the best when they go with what nature gave them. Have you noticed that? I am sure many will disagree, but I do think that the hair that comes out of our heads is made to go with the skin coloring we have. A simple matter of genetics really. It is certainly fun to play with our hair, but nowadays the few times when I have dyed mine, I use my natural color just to cover the grays.
But sometimes I wonder… why cover them at all? Why does it matter if they are there? So what if I am not even 35 yet (can’t believe I will be this year though)! Then I stumbled across this adorable video of Jenny talking about finally letting her hair go gray and how much she loves it. I found it on one of my favorite websites, Advanced Style.
Why fight nature? What about my other gray haired friends out there in blog land? Do you embrace them, or hide them?
We have counter tops! And not just any counter top, we have Wilsonart HD counter tops!! These photos won’t really show how amazing they are, and especially since our back splash isn’t done, but we are over the moon! Here is a look at our kitchen right before the installers came:
And here is what it looked like right after:
Look at the shine! The color we picked is called Deepstar Bronze, and it is a very pretty neutral that has a lot of depth to it. There is even a hint of blue/green, which we thought would look great with the Venetian plaster treatment we did on our walls. Of course what I am most happy about, besides the look of it, is that it is going to be easy to maintain and keep clean. Tile counter tops are truly the worst, it is such a relief to have a smooth work surface!!
Oh yes, and I would be very remiss if I didn’t tell you another very exciting part! The sink!
That’s right, it’s integrated! Did you know that you could do that now with laminate? With the Wilsonart HD you can, which was something we were unaware of until we started working with them on this project. I can’t wait to use it! It’s a bit deeper than our previous sink, but most of all, being able to wipe the counter top off into the sink without hitting a lip is going to be so nice!
As you can see, there is still much to do, but we are both pleased as punch right now!
*Wilsonart provided the counter top and sink for our project. As always, our opinions are our own.*
Ready and waiting for the new counter tops to arrive. And now it looks like…
Oh yes, the happy dance has been happening all morning! I can’t wait to see what it will look like once we have the back splash up, and when everything is complete. It felt so great to be able to have lunch on a counter top again! Luckily yesterday was a day of preparing which I could do myself (since hubby was out of commission due to the surgery). I haven’t even put the drawers or anything else back in yet because I am so zonked, but also I want to do a clear out of things that haven’t been used. Seems like the perfect time since it’s all sitting in my living room anyway!
