The tale of the broken bed.

By , January 5, 2010

Our bed. The bed that we were so excited to find, the bed with the padded leather headboard and foot board. The bed that is so perfect for watching TV, reading, or even just leaning against. The bed that looks quiet rich, and goes together so well with our bedroom furniture. The bed that we found at such a deal ($200) that we couldn’t pass it up. That bed… well, it broke.

Our broken bed.

The foot board, which according to my hubby, had been preparing to break for sometime now, finally gave up a few weeks back and came down with a crash. It is currently being held up by a stack of old books. The other side of it is still holding, but who knows for how much longer.

Our bed now slopes down towards the side without the books, even though we took out one of the books when we first noticed it. Guess what side is higher? Mine… which means that I sleep on a slope. I wake up every morning even more stiff and sore than ever before. And what is worse is that we can’t easily to fix it. We will have to replace it.

My vote was to put the headboard on our old bed frame (which we happen to still have). My other idea was to buy the bed that I have been dreaming about and add our awesome head board to that. Sure it’s a pretty penny, but it has drawers! Drawers for under the bed storage!! What could be better than that (other than it being free, of course)? Sadly budget won’t allow for that unless Pottery Barn has a miracle half off sale or something! The last idea was to build our own platform… but I would really rather not wait that long since it would be months before it would happen (it’s so cold out right now, working on anything, even in our garage, is very unappealing).

For now though, it’s a major toe hazard. I fear for my toes, which have stubbed the books on more than one occasion.

Another spectacular sunset!

Winter produces some amazing colors, and though the photographs never do any justice to the way it really looked in person, I still try to capture the moment. This appeared last night (and through the power of FB, I know that some of my friends also saw it in person). For those who didn’t:

Capturing the pink sky.

This was my view from our back door, through our walnut tree. The sky was the most brilliant shade of pink that I actually first noticed it while I was sitting in my office. The room got pinker and pinker, I looked out the window and scurried to capture it on camera before it disappeared. The winter sunset, though dazzling, is also fleeting.

We have "Engrish"!

For one of my hubby’s Christmas gifts I got him a very cool thing called a Spacerail. He loves putting things together (especially if they are fun things), and he also really enjoys science and physics. He was pretty excited about getting it put together, until we saw the totally unhelpful instructions. Good thing my hubby is a genius or else this thing will never be built! After seeing the great instructions I took a look at the box and found tons of funny “Engrish”!

"Engrish"

“Sometimes snail and sometimes scour, it is for adult playing indoors”! The entire text is full of great mistakes actually, but for some reason that was my favorite part. And below, some more funny misspellings.

"Engrish"

A lot of you may already know about it, but I recently came across a website that is dedicated to “Engrish”, so I was kind of excited about finding some on something we owned! Most of the photos on the Engrish site come from other countries. Just be warned, you will probably spend lots of time looking at all the funny if you do visit the website. I know that we sure did!
