Sleep Better Month

By , May 25, 2010

Did you know that May is national Better Sleep Month? I just found out about it, and since we spend so much of our lives asleep, it’s an important thing to think about. Sadly, many of us are sleep deprived or sleeping poorly. My husband and I included!

The only bone of contention in our marriage has been our different sleeping patterns, which I talked about in a previous post. For far too long I really didn’t get much sleep, and usually slept on the very edge of our mattress to keep from getting kicked or punched. My poor husband (who usually slept through his activities) had to deal with a grumpy, sleep deprived wife most of the time. Like I mentioned, we replaced our old mattress and bought a SleepNumber bed. Now that we are both more comfortable on our own sides, and able to adjust the firmness/softness independently, we have slept much better.

So, because we actually own one and like it, I am more than happy to share these tips and deals from Select Comfort.

Sleep Tips:
Many moms, dads and kids are sleep deprived or sleep poorly. Sleep helps our bodies recuperate, stave of illness, and function better- emotionally and physically!

Select Comfort’s Vice President of Sleep Innovation and Clinical Research, Pete Bils– who has been researching sleep for more than ten years– has sleep advice to help people sleep better. Do you know what the best sleep temperature is? When you’re supposed to exercise before bedtime? How about watching TV? Pete’s 10 tips can be found at http://beds.com/sleeptips/.

Wasted Weekend

By , May 24, 2010

The weekend was a bit of a waste. It was cold, and rainy, making yard work a bit tough (wet grass and lawn mowers don’t mix). Now it’s snowing (see post below)! However, even if it hadn’t been cold, I was feeling awful and not like doing anything at all on Saturday.

When we were installing our faucet awhile ago, I was under the sink trying to tighten something that Heath couldn’t reach. I wasn’t even in an odd position, but something in my neck felt like it popped, and a hot pain went all the way through it. It hurt so much, the pain even went into my jaw and my shoulder. I still am not sure what happened (pinched nerve?), but ever since then there are times when it hurts again. Saturday the pain woke me up, and it nagged at me all day. Later on my tum decided to get in on the action, and so I was pretty much out of commission the entire day.

The weekend wasn’t a total loss though, we didn’t get to do anything super fun out of the house, but we didn’t have to look too far for some excitement. The first iris of the season came out:

Four fighter jets flying in formation flew over us many times and were visible from the backyard. They were loud! And amazing. I still don’t know why they were flying over, but it was such a sight to see!

Lots of house dreaming and planning, especially about our next project. Any guesses? Here’s a fairly huge hint:

And a bit of rearranging in preparation for a new pet goldfish (more about that later, kind of fun and interesting, and deserves it’s own post). How was your weekend?

Springtime? Where'd you go?

And here I thought we were going to start getting warmer! Although it does say it should be in the 80s by the middle of the week. Crazy, mountain, living!

Who You Gonna Call?

Oh goodness this is awesome! Improv Everywhere does it again.

And also, I love Ghostbusters. In fact, one of the first things I ever won in a contest was an awesome Ghostbusters telephone. I am not sure what happened to it, as I can’t seem to find it, but I loved that phone so much!
