When we bought our home, not only were we excited because it was OUR OWN, but it also had “new carpet smell”! I know, I know, that smell isn’t good for you, but really, how can you not love it? We were so glad that we got a home that had all new carpet in it. Little did we know our carpet was a vacuum killer!

Each time I vacuum, even now that we have lived here for almost 5 years, the vacuum fills up with carpet fibers. Instead of just having nice, clean carpet, we get to enjoy a burning rubber smell as the vacuum overheats and almost dies, or a terrible sound that makes it sound like the vacuum is about to explode. And here is the kicker, we have two very nice vacuums. One of them is a Dyson, the other a Hoover. It’s not unusual for me to have to pull them apart to remove carpet fibers from around the brush. In fact, I usually have to do that at least once or twice a month.
One day my mom brought over her carpet cleaner, and I warned her that I didn’t think it was going to work. We decided to try it, since she has a room with similar carpet (although obviously hers is higher quality) and it worked just fine for her. We got one square done before the cleaner died and I had to take it apart to fix it.
New flooring is on the wish list for sure as I have mentioned before, but it’s not just about looks. It’s about function too! Vacuum killer, qu’est que c’est!

We are doing things a little differently in our garden this year. We will be growing our tomatoes upside down!

You have probably seen commercials for upside down tomato growers, but the one that we bought is a nicer and sturdier version than the “as seen on TV” versions (our bag is a fabric instead of plastic). It should be fun to see if growing them upside down really makes a difference. We have grown tomatoes before, but now that we are making our own salsa, growing our own tomatoes is a must! Do any of you have a favorite type of tomato that you grow?
In addition to the upside down tomatoes, I am growing a more traditional method plant for use in salads and on my hubby’s hamburgers. The rest of our food will be grown in our Earth Boxes. Now, if we could only convince Mother Nature to decide that it’s spring for real, we would be on our way to gardening bliss!

Baby the Maltese loves to go behind this table to “hide”. I think that she thinks of it in terms of “if I can’t see them they can’t see me”. However, all it takes is just bending down a bit and she is totally visible. Oh the disappointment she must feel now that she knows she isn’t invisible after all.
Oh boy, what has it been, like a day? And already I am thinking “what was I thinking”!
So, after deciding to retire this blog, and letting that marinate for a whopping 24 hours, my mind starts going. What about my 101 in 1001 list? What about Project Hoop? Photography projects and other crafty pursuits? And let’s not forget all the books I still need to review. Throw in all the funny random things that I love to share that have nothing to do with anything else on my other blogs and well, you can see where I am going with this. I can’t retire my personal blog! What was I thinking?
Looks like sanity is over rated after all.
