The Homestead

Back in the first part of June, we had family from out of town come to visit. It was so much fun, even if the weather felt more like winter than summer! On one of the days we went to  The Homestead. The men golfed, while the women swam indoors, played shuffle board (or rather, tried), and explored the crater a bit. I hadn’t been there since I was about 3 or so, which was way too long! The one thing I remember most about The Homestead is the garden, and it didn’t seem to me to have changed much at all. Click images to see full size.

The crater is one of the most unique things about the resort. You can scuba dive in it, or you can just go for a float. We didn’t do either, but we did go inside and look up at the sky through the crater. The other crazy thing is, the water is coming from a hot spring, so it’s always 90-94 degrees! There are a lot of hot springs in the area, but it’s pretty awesome nonetheless.

I can’t believe it was the first time we had gone, especially because we are “founders club members” there. That means free golf and swimming for life. You would think we would go all the time! Of course, I don’t really golf, but my husband does.

After the day at The Homestead we stopped off at a local greasy spoon for dinner. I had fish and chips which were very good, and we shared a root beer float. Of course the best part was spending time together as family and friends.

Summer Mix Tape

One of my favorite things is the mix tape. I fondly remember the hours and hours that my friends and I spent making tapes for each other (and of course, for the boys that we liked). I still have all the mix tapes that were ever given to me as gifts.

While we don’t actually use tapes anymore, there is nothing quiet like a mix of music to make life a little more fun. I especially love it when there are “new to me songs” as part of the mix, or when there are songs that remind me of fun times. I recently got an amazing mix from my friend Daynia for my birthday!

So, in honor of summer, friends, and good times, I thought it would be fun make a summer mix tape online. Some are my old summer favorites, and others are newer songs. Click the link to listen to my summer mix tape. And I am likely to keep adding songs as I think of them too.

The big 35!

We went to Las Vegas for my birthday. It was, after all, a semi-big birthday. I turned 35 of all things! Remember how I made a list of birthday wishes? Not only did many come true, but many fabulous things happened that weren’t on the list. Here was my list (including some major budget busting wishes, but that is what a wish is for, right?):

  1. A mix CD. My friend Daynia (DJ Daynia from Down Under) totally came through for me on this one, as a disc just arrived in the mail.
  2. This Hello Kitty watch from Swatch. My husband made this one come true, in addition to two other awesome Swatch watches that he bought for me from the Swatch shop in Las Vegas. Throw in another fun watch from my mom, and my birthday was full of watch goodness.
  3. A dinner that I don’t have to cook, or pick up. Not only did I have a dinner that I didn’t have to cook, I had several of them. And breakfasts, and lunches too! It was heaven.
  4. New walking shoes, and a gym membership too.
  5. An overnight someplace fun with my hubby. Going to Las Vegas gave me more than just one night someplace fun! We had three of them!
  6. The Electra Swing Tandem 3i bike.
  7. New rollerblade wheels.
  8. The Hello Kitty Fender guitar.
  9. A garden dome green house.
  10. A B-52′s tee. The first concert I ever went to!

While in Las Vegas, other dreams came true. I have always wanted to swim with dolphins, and while we didn’t get to do that, we did visit them and they were so close! I kept wanting to reach out and touch them, and I could have done that too if it was allowed! They were also very fun and friendly, playing and jumping out of the water. We also saw the sharks, stingrays, and jellyfish at Mandalay Bay, where I did touch stingrays many times! Also, we went to Titanic exhibit at the Luxor where we were staying. Eating at The Rainforest Cafe was another highlight, especially since they sat us right next to a fish tank. So many happy memories to start a new year with.

Hello dolphin!

Back at home we celebrated with my family, who gave me some awesome gifts. For the garden, a tether ball set and Bocce ball set. We are going to have loads of fun in the backyard this summer. Also some books from my wish list, a game for the Wii, and even a gift card for another overnight in a theme hotel. I got spoiled! Seems only fair since I had to get older. ;)

June was a busy month all around actually, and so there will be many catching up posts to come. Oh yes, and did I mention that we saw PINK FLAMINGOS in Las Vegas too? Well, we did!
