Sweet Tweet

Our bird isn’t fond of posing for the camera, well, unless it’s the video camera, then she absolutely loves it. She is a quirky little bird who is afraid of her own fluff, but we sure love her. I was just thinking about how she has been with us for our entire marriage. Our first pet together. Yes, I had a ferret when we got married, but he was mine for 7 years before my husband even came into my life. Our bird became ours just months after our wedding, so she has been through all the moves, the craziness, the fun, and hopefully she’ll be joining us for many more of those years too.

When she is happy she sits on my leg, or the back of my office chair and makes these adorable bird sounds. She also has angry sounds (when we leave the room for example), and at other times we often hear her “practicing” her whistles when she thinks no one is listening. She doesn’t actually whistle like most birds, but she makes the sounds of a whistle. It’s hard to explain, and has yet to be captured on video.

She loves to eat millet, sunflower seeds, and oat groats. She doesn’t like any fresh fruits or veggies because they are scary. Books on the other hand are not scary at all, and are considered quiet tasty. Yes indeed, our bird is a funny bird.

The kitchen sink.

By , August 26, 2010

You might remember we recently did a kitchen makeover thanks to the folks at Wilsonart. We were given new HD Laminate, including their integrated HD sink. It’s been several months now since we had everything installed, and I have been enjoying every second of it. We had tile before, which I hated because it was so hard to keep it clean. Our new counter tops, and especially with the sink, make keeping things clean a breeze. A clean kitchen is super important to me.

I made a video to show you our sink. Yes, a video of me, talking about our sink! But there are some cool things about it that photos just don’t show as well. If you don’t want to watch, continue down the post to see some of the sink highlights in typed form.

The sink is seamless with the counter top, which makes clean up a breeze. In fact, I almost put something messy on the counter just so I could show wiping it off! If you have an over-mounted sink, with the big lip, then you know that it’s not easy to wipe things into it. I also love that it gives it the look and feel of a much more expensive counter top, but with a budget friendly cost.

The sink has a large sink deck for holding a sponge, or other items, this shelf also channels water away from the surface. There are 5 different sink configurations to suit any style. The sink, which is made from a thermal formed acrylic, is stain and heat resistant, and comes in ivory or white. If you want to see all the sink styles, and learn more, visit the Wilsonart website.

What kind of sink do you have in your kitchen?

Thanks again to Wilsonart for providing the counter top and sink for our project, and also to Delta Faucet for the faucet.

Falling…

By , August 24, 2010

There have been a few cooler days, teasing us into thinking fall is coming. Though we all know what is really going to happen, the heat is going to come back and stick around awhile! The garden seems to be winding down a little bit, so I thought it would be a good time to take some photos. First, our front porch plants have done so well! Pink geraniums and moss rose are a fun combo.

A close up of what a moss rose flower looks like:

Cooler weather, very ripe bananas, and super fun measuring spoons all come together for a perfect excuse to bake. I had wanted to try a recipe from the book The Most Decadent Diet Ever! for sometime now. When I saw banana coconut mini-muffins in it, I knew they would be the winner! And they were so very yummy.

Here are the adorable cupcake measuring spoons that my mother-in-law gave me for my birthday. I think they are the cutest thing ever, and they are quiet heavy too! When not in use, they stay out in the kitchen as decoration. Some thing are too cute to keep in a drawer.

What have you been up to lately? Is it beginning to feel a bit more like fall in your neck of the woods?

Inspiration Tuesday

This is a dream reading area for sure! I love that the tree holds the books, and how comfy the hammock swing looks. What a fun space for growing minds! I wouldn’t mind something like this for myself though either!
