We often get great pet products to review on our animal blog (4theloveofanimals). Recently Baby got some sweet potato fries. She loves them! And she is pretty picky. However, what is really funny is what she does once she gets the fry! The girl can’t just go and eat it, oh no, she must play with it first. This happens each and every time, and I finally caught it on video! Enjoy.
I have some fun news, and a “sweet” giveaway for you all! Hershey’s has just launched a national program called Moderation Nation. It was created by the Hershey Center for Health & Nutrition, (HCHN) in collaboration with the American Dietetic Association. Moderation Nation is a great website that gives you a variety of tools that will help you achieve moderation in your life.
In addition to the website they even offer an iPhone app (free for download) so you can track your daily activities, and earn “reward badges” in the app. You can go from a Starting Gun to a Healthy Hero! It’s a handy way to keep track of how much activity you are getting in a day. I downloaded it to my iPod touch, and was happy to see that there were a lot of different activities, even things like housework were included in the list. The Moderation Nation Web site (www.themoderationnation.com) provides a host of new tools for you including:
Recipes and Expert Tips. Here you’ll find advice from Cheryl Forberg, registered dietitian (RD) for NBC’s The Biggest Loser, award-winning chef and New York Times best-selling cookbook author
Additional recipes and tips from Regina Ragone, Food Director at Family Circle magazine; Keri Glassman, author of the O2 diet; and Liz Ward, author of Expect the Best Pregnancy.
Moderation Menus. Seven-day meal plans – with snack ideas – that will help you plan out your week. Each menu is based on an individual lifestyle, such as Single, Adults with Kids and Adults with No Kids.
Balance the Meal. This cool balancer tool allows you to input your main dish and its preparation method; in return, you’ll receive ideas for complementary side dishes that round out the meal smartly.
Useful Facts. Here you’ll find everything from a “portion distortion” guide – providing cues on what actual portion sizes should look like – to a grocery shopping fact sheet – to a guide on how to start and maintain a food journal.
I have always believe that to be healthy you had to have moderation in everything. What fun is life if you can’t have some of your favorite foods once in awhile? So, would you like the chance to win a fun prize package? Complete with a little chocolate to share? One lucky reader will get a “Moderation Nation” prize pack, which includes a Moderation Nation t-shirt, Hershey’s chocolate and a nutrition journal to track your food and activities. Here is how to enter:
Leave a comment telling me your favorite treat.
The giveaway will close at midnight on October 4th, 2010.

I would like to thank MyBlogSpark and Hershey’s for providing me with the Moderation Nation package (and some yummy Hershey kisses that I have been enjoying all week), as well as providing the information and prize for the giveaway.
This giveaway is now closed, congrats to Veronica.
I have to admit, I have tried to participate in the 365 project before. Tried and failed. However, the idea of taking a photo each day for a year really appeals to me. I want to try it again. To make it easier on myself though, and to overcome what seemed to be the major obstacle (downloading the photos daily), I am thinking of sharing my photos weekly on Sundays.
I have been practicing this month in anticipation of really giving it a try. Here are some favorites.
Perhaps the cutest pumpkin in the world!
These looked like silver in the sunlight!
If all goes according to plan, I am going to start my 365 project on October 1st. I really hope that I can make it happen this time around! What about you, have you ever attempted the 365 project? Did you complete it?
Whenever I am pressed for time and have fresh veggies on hand, a simple stir-fry is my meal of choice. It’s so easy to throw together, just some chopped veggies, and small pieces of meat (for the carnivore husband), a little EVOO, and a dinner is born! This week, we had some yellow squash and zucchini on hand as well as some mushrooms.
I like to slice my squash for this dish, though there have been times when I have cut them into little pie shapes instead. This time around I added some Mrs. Dash Garlic and Herb seasoning to the mix. It’s a nice way to add some flavor without adding salt. Once everything was nicely cooked, I even sprinkled some grated Parmesan cheese on top. Yummm!
Of course, what would dinner be without having a fun little centerpiece to go along with it? When we were at Costco I saw these adorable little pumpkins that looked like they were growing off of a tree branch! Yes, they are real! And the tag called them “pumpkin tree”, which I had to Google when I got home because really, is there such a thing as a pumpkin tree? Guess what? There is! It’s called pumpkin on a stick.
Life is just one big fun experiment! Exploring nature, photography, cooking, DIY, science, technology, and anything else that catches our fancy. My lab partner and I share our laboratory with our adorable pets, and our ever growing flock of pink flamingos. Need to get in touch? Feel free to email me!
