Pardon my lungs.

Oh, Winter! You and I really don’t play well together, do we?

Winter is my enemy. Oh sure, it can be downright pretty at times, with the snow and the Christmas lights, but the cold, dry, air, makes my body fall apart. Each year around this time, I get the dreaded cough. I cough, cough, and cough, and find it hard to stop. Each and every winter. It hurts, it’s exhausting, it makes me a bit grumpy, it also sounds like I am dying and probably makes those around me very uncomfortable. I always try to tell people that I am not contagious, that it’s just my lungs trying to breath.

Snow!

So, I have to admit that it’s hard to work out in any real capacity during this time of the year. The lack of breath, and just being worn out from not sleeping and trying to breath makes it a tad tough. Which is really a bummer because I enjoy moving my body. My clothes appreciate it too, when they get to fit properly.

This past month and a half I have gained 6 pounds! I console myself in knowing that there were a lot (and I do mean a lot) of holiday treats in the mix from November until now. But I am still not happy with the gain because what it really represents is a loss of health and wellness. Summer cannot come fast enough. And I really need to reintroduce myself to our treadmill.

What about you dear friends, do any of you struggle with health issues that make it harder to keep in shape?

P.S. Did you get an orange in the bottom of your Christmas stocking too? If you are wondering what to do with it (other than just eating it), come visit my latest gardening article: Grow your own citrus.

EatSmart Digital Scale

By , December 27, 2010

We all know that maintaining a healthy weight is important for living a healthy lifestyle. So of course I was excited to get the chance to review the EatSmart Precision Digital Bathroom Scale, and it came just in time for me to keep track of my holiday eating too! This is one stylish scale! It looks great, and most importantly, it works well too.

Great things about this scale:

  • “Step On” technology, meaning that it turns on when you step on! No tapping it to turn it on before getting on to weigh.
  • It came with batteries.
  • The display is 3.5 inches, nice and readable!
  • The display also has a back light, so you can easily see it anywhere you use the scale.
  • Sleek and stylish design. I love that it would look great in any bathroom, or in the workout room.
  • The scale feels nice and sturdy, even though it’s made of glass. It can hold up to 400 pounds!

Although this scale was sent to me for review, my opinions of it are my own. I think this would be a great investment (especially considering how low the price is), for anyone who wants to keep track of their weight for health. You can find the EatSmart Precision Digital Bathroom Scale on Amazon (affiliate link), along with other products for healthy living from EatSmart.

Post Christmas Wrap-Up

Christmas Elf

It’s hard to believe that another holiday season is almost over! 2010, where did you go? It seems that this year zoomed by so quickly, and now, already it’s almost 2011. Christmas was full of great food and family fun. Our families both live nearby, so we split up the holiday so we can visit with everyone.

On Christmas Eve we celebrate with my parents, this year we brought KFC for dinner. Oh, it was so very tasty. What a treat. Of course it was also nice to give my mom a bit of a break from cooking as well. Then we have fun opening presents, and playing with them too. This year we did something new that was really fun too, we set out luminaries in the neighborhood. Christmas Eve always feels like real Christmas to me. Growing up Christmas Eve was always the big day for us. It’s when we had a big meal, and of course, watched for Santa, and opened a gift (usually new PJ’s or something fun to be used for the night). I always got to open an extra gift too, in celebration of my half birthday!

On Christmas morning my hubby and I open our stockings to each other, and I always try to make a special breakfast. This year I did scrambled eggs, sausage, and potatoes o’brien. It was really tasty, and filling, which was great because our Christmas dinner with my husband’s family was later in the day. We had a big meal, and exchanged gifts with his siblings and their families. We even got a funny hat with Elf ears on it! I ended up wearing it in the family photo even, hopefully you can see the ears.

After spending time with his family, in what seemed like ideal weather, we drove home and right into a major fog bank! It was really gorgeous, especially with the glow of so many Christmas lights. It was surprising though, as the weather had been so sunny and even a bit warm the entire day. The fog didn’t stick around long once we were home. Since we didn’t get snow for Christmas, we are counting the fog as our “white Christmas” instead.

My husband doesn’t have to return to work until next year, so it will be nice to unwind and relax after the busyness of the holiday season. We hope to see Tron, and of course we plan to play with all the fun new toys we got at Christmas as well. Hopefully your holiday was filled with fun and family too!
