Give Back

By , December 9, 2010

I recently learned about a new website called GiveBack.org and was asked to post about it. At this time of giving in the holiday season, I was really excited to see what the site was all about. After all, being able to shop online and have it do good for my charity of choice, sounded great to me!

It’s very easy to get started, and they even fund your account with $5.00 just for signing up. If you are on Facebook, you can sign into GiveBack.org that way, or you can create an entirely new account. Once you create your account, you can then search for charities that you want in your “foundation”, these are the charities that you will donate to via shopping online, or you can even donate directly to them and get a tax deduction. I added Best Friends Animal Society right away. Also? They are having a contest right now that will give a $1000 donation to one persons foundation.

As for the shopping options, they have a ton of big name websites! Target, Walmart, and many, many others. Just use the Give Back Shopping Mall to shop through, and a percentage of your purchase goes back to your foundation. Though I haven’t been using the site for very long, I really love the idea. I hope that if you do online shopping, you will consider using GiveBack.org to help support the causes that you love.

The video in the widget explains it so much better than I ever could, so if you have time, be sure to take a look at it.

Ho, ho, ho!

A case of nerves!

By , December 7, 2010

I’m going to an amazing blogging conference this winter. I’ve never been to a blogging conference before, so I am starting to get a little case of the nerves. As I see the speaker list grow, and hear about all the fun and interesting things that will be going on (including some hands on classes, and dinner in some of the best restaurants), I begin to get both excited and a bit awestruck. Oh, and did I forget to mention that the conference is being held in the posh, 5 star, Grand America?

So, to those of you who have attended conferences before, what advice do you wish you had known before you went? Any tips and tricks for a conference newbie?

Team 4all Tryout!

By , December 7, 2010

This morning in my email I discovered something wonderful! 4all, a sport garment company with a eye on design, was looking for a team of 10 bloggers! Did I want to “try out” by writing a blog post? You bet I did!

While I haven’t had the chance to enjoy their clothing personally, a company that strives to create the perfect fit for all women, something comfortable and flattering, as well as being great for sports, sounds like a company for me! I am always on the look out for the perfect workout wear, especially because we live in an ever changing climate!

What or who inspired you to start a fitness/sports routine and how are you planning to gain power in the New Year?

I have always loved moving my body. When I was younger I played tennis all the time (we lived right next to a tennis court), and even played doubles for my high school team. Dancing has always been a part of my life as well, along with other favorites like beach volleyball, rollerblading, mountain biking, hiking, and walking. The love of movement, along with feeling great, has always been the reason for my fitness routine. But something else inspired me over the past few years.

My dad’s health, and my own. Before my dad suffered his first stroke, he was active and worked out daily. With each subsequent stroke, he lost more and more of his ability to do the things he used to do. However, I firmly believe that if he had not been working out before his first stroke, he would have lost a lot more. We are lucky because he didn’t lose all use of his limbs like some stroke victims do. Seeing him decline though has really pushed me to do more to improve my own health. I want to be as healthy as possible for as long as I possibly can.

With the coming year I intend to do more of the things I enjoy, including my upcoming African dance class, as well as adding some new things to the mix. We recently joined our local recreation center and are looking forward to learning to play racquetball. It will be a great addition to our usual winter workouts on the treadmill! I can’t wait for the warmer weather to get back out on our bikes.

And of course, you will still find me inside my hula hoop, rocking the tunes and having fun!

I would love to be part of Team 4all to connect with other awesome bloggers, help spread the fun and fitness message, and look awesome doing it! Pick me! :)
