When I was in High School I took a class in which we produced a weekly TV show. We learned to film, edit, and the like. It was a lot of fun, and a lot of hard work. Today editing is so much easier, with computer programs that make it pretty simple (though there is still a lot involved). It’s hard to imagine back to the time when they actually edited by cutting the film and putting it back together, and yet that is exactly what they did.
One of my favorite movies ever is Topper. It was made in 1937, with a sequel to follow in 1941. The original is the one that I love, it’s a funny ghost story, and it has some ground breaking special effects for the time period! While at Alt, DJ Spooky showed this fun clip from even earlier in time! It’s called one man band:
Isn’t it cute? But more than that, isn’t it amazing? Imagine the work that he did to do that in 1900. It’s not like today when we can easily make copies of ourselves on the computer (though a good modern example is Outkast’s music video for Hey Yeah).
What is your favorite old movie? What is it that makes you love it?
My fave old movie is The Apartment. Jack Lemmon is great and I just think the whole thing is so….romantic looking. Everyone just looks so pretty. The story has a sad part, but of course, everything works out in the end!
That is a movie on my to watch list! I’ll have to move it up higher now that I know you loved it, as you must have good taste (being a dog lover and all).
