I’d like to thank the Academy!

I’ve always thought it would be a lot of fun to be an actress! I was even an extra in a movie before, which was a ton of fun, something I would love to do again. Recently I have been trying to figure out how to get into voice overs, as I think being an animated character would be about the most fun thing in the world!

Another thing that I always thought would be tons of fun? Throwing an Oscar party! Have you ever done one? The 83rd Annual Academy Awards are on Sunday, and I just got a bunch of fun tips from Yoplait. So, it’s not too late to throw a party together if you want to! :)

How to get a red carpet look at home: Celebrity stylist, host of the Style Network’s “How Do I Look?” and Yoplait Light Two Week Tune Up spokesperson Jeannie Mai tells us how to get red-carpet ready:

  • The Dress: When picking a dress for your Oscar party, pick styles that show off your best assets. If you have great arms, show them off with a sleeveless look or try something like a wrap-dress to accentuate your curves. An added bonus of a cocktail dress is that it can be transformed from casual to formal with a little help from accessories – so you could wear your dress to work, add accessories and hit a party.
  • Adding Glamour: You don’t have to spend a fortune to add a little flare to your outfit. Try adding a broach, a statement necklace or fabulous earrings and colorful scarf to add some glamour to your dress.
  • Feeling Confident: Looking your best is also about feeling your best. With only a few days left before the Oscars, try a quick tune-up to give you that extra boost of confidence. I’m working with Yoplait Light and I love their Two Week Tune Up plan – you could lose five pounds in just two weeks which may help give you that extra boost (see Yoplait.com for full plan details).
  • Shoes: Shoes are also an important part of your overall look. A pair of high heel shoes can give you added height making you look not only taller, but slimmer. Your shoes can instantly transform from casual to formal as well. Wear a classic pair of black or solid color pumps for day. Then to jazz them up for night – take a pair of pretty clip-on earrings and clip them onto the front of your shoes. It’s a great way to add some glitz to polish off your look.

Other ideas for your party:

  • Set up a photo area in your home – it could simply be a corner of your living room – where each guest can take their own ‘red carpet’ photo.
  • Pick a signature cocktail/mocktail for the evening for something extra special.
  • Play a game with your guests and vote on who you think will win each award.

Those of you who know me well know that I love to throw themed parties! These fun tips and ideas really make me want to put something together for Sunday (if only all my besties lived in town!). What about you? Do you watch the Oscars? Do you make an event of it and throw a party?

*Yoplait sent me these tips to share with you. I wasn’t paid or compensated in any way for sharing, I just thought they were loads of fun. If you want to learn about the Two Week Tune Up, and get a coupon, you can do so here: www.Yoplait.com/twoweektuneup.*

Thaifoon!

Thiafoon waterfall.

Since my husband loves Asian food, and we had heard so many great things about Thaifoon, we knew we had to give it a go. It did not disappoint. The atmosphere was as great as the food. I really loved the back wall, pictured above, with the waterfall. We got to sit right next to it too!

Chicken stir fry.

I ordered the Shanghi Stir Fry Chicken, and my hubby ordered Firecracker Chicken. They were both very good, though we both loved the stir fry chicken the best. We were also curious and amused by a dish called Evil Jungle Princess Chicken, which we might have to try next time we go. However, I am a bit worried because although I like spicy things, my husband gave me a small piece of his favorite pepper (you know, the skinny red peppers you see in some Asian dishes) and about killed me. Yes, on our anniversary, my husband tried to kill me with a pepper.

The tiny pepper was so hot that it gave me hiccups. Loud hiccups, right in the middle of a restaurant. Apparently I am not fit to eat out in public. ;)

9 years!

It’s hard to imagine, but 9 years ago today my hubby and I started our married life together. We skipped all the usual wedding hype in favor of a kicked back day that suited our style. He wore a suit not a tux, I wore a cute green dress. We got our family together at The Pizza Factory for a little lunch party with pizza, and wedding cake (yummy, yummy, cake). After that we were off on our adventures together, and here we are 9 years later! It went by so quickly! Since our anniversary fell right after a three day weekend this year, we took full advantage!

Kiss filled flutes

We stayed overnight at The Anniversary Inn in the “Palace Suite”, which even had a nice deck outside. Sure it was only in the 30s, but it was lovely to have a little outdoor space. There was also a big jetted tub, and a fireplace in the room. We arrived to find Hershey Kiss filled flutes that we got to bring home.

Towel swans.

And towel swans on the tub! I have always wanted to stay someplace that made animals out of their towels. Of course no luxury themed room would be complete with out a BIG bed! I am even more convinced that we do indeed need to buy a King sized bed someday. Soon would be good.

Palace room bed

The inn is made for romantic evenings in. In fact, they close the gates to the parking lot at 10:00PM (something that surprised us upon arrival, but it does ensure you spend lots of quality time together, wink, wink). They even provide free movies for your room, and a fun movie pack!

Movie theater fun!

And what better way to wake up on anniversary morning that to a cute breakfast in bed. It was tasty too! Hot chocolate, orange juice, parfaits, a croissant with ham and cheese inside, and a big cinnamon roll to share.

Breakfast in bed.

It was a very fun way to celebrate the big 9! Next on the list? Another fun movie night (at home), complete with a huge heart shaped chocolate chip cookie I am going to bake when I finish typing this! :)

Dessert erasers

Small cute things. I love them. Probably more than I should. Case in point, these adorable erasers from Japan. I have always loved cute erasers. These are so fun and detailed too, so much so that I often wish they were real so I could eat them.

Of course, I would never use them to erase with! That would just be nuts!
