Sweet Dreams

I really love the way this bed from Pottery Barn looks. The color of the wood, the bedding, the fact that the bed frame is not being held up by stacks of books. So very unlike my own bed, which is still being held up by stacks of books.

Oh, and I realize the photo does in fact have piles of books in it! But at least they aren’t holding up the bed. :)

I could totally live in a Pottery Barn. It never fails that I visit the site, or look at a catalog, and see something I love. Today I was looking to see what new beds they had, if any, because yet again I stubbed my toe in the night on a book. I really thought I would see a bunch of little paper cuts on my toes this morning from the run in (luckily I did not). It got me thinking of how I can’t even remember when we had a proper bed frame. How long had it been this way, a year? Hopefully not more than a year, but could it be that long?

I think this bed could be a winner in the great bed search (the ideal option would be a king sized bed, if money were no object). It looks like it would match our furniture, and it appears to have the option to add a headboard, which is great since we have a headboard that we love.

Sigh… maybe we will forever be doomed to the redneck version of a bed…

*Just so you know, Pottery Barn didn’t ask me to write this. In fact, I doubt they even know about my little blog. If they did though, and wanted to sponsor me in some way, I would be over the moon happy because I really love their stuff.*

Soil Mates

Spring is just around the corner, and with it comes garden dreams and plans. So of course I was thrilled when I got a copy of Soil Mates: Companion Plants for Your Vegetable Garden to review! If you have ever wondered about companion planting, what it is, how to do it, and of course, what plants are compatible, then you need this book!

The book isn’t just informational, though it does lay out wonderfully the plants that benefit one another, why they help each other, and even how to plant them. This book is also a joy to look at! With funny descriptions and gorgeous illustrations, you won’t just love it for the information!

I’m thrilled to be able to put it to use this spring as we plant our new garden. We have always wanted to grow more of our own food, and especially to do so without the use of chemicals. After all, we do want to eat that food we grow! Companion planting can help gardens grow without the need for chemicals, as the plants help each other in various ways. Some plants will help nourish other plants, while others keep bugs away from each other. It’s truly an amazing way to plan a garden.

Soil Mates: Companion Plants for Your Vegetable Garden will become a fast favorite for any gardener’s library. I know I have loved reading it since it got here. I am looking very forward to putting it to use when the weather is right!

Of hibernation and spring teases.

Mother Nature has been a HUGE tease. This past weekend was spring like, we even got near the 60 degree mark! It made me so happy. I celebrated by going outdoors and hooping, despite the patches of snow that were lingering. Then last night, bam! Snow and cold made a comeback.

This winter has been horrible for my health. If only I were a bear or other animal that hibernated, because I certainly added the weight to last me for the whole winter! The cold, gloomy weather puts me in a mood to do a whole bunch of nothing. Well, not nothing. It puts me in the mood to snuggle in, watch movies, and drink far too much hot chocolate. Then there are all those food based holidays that happen too. So three months later I find myself 10 pounds heavier, and it’s not much fun.

Gratefully the sun has returned, and my body feels like eating lighter, moving more, and getting out of hibernation. What about you? Do you hibernate too?
