Tuesday afternoon we learned that my sister-in-law was admitted to the hospital. We were thrilled to hear it, because we had been worried about her for over a month and a half. The diagnosis? A tennis ball sized tumor on her brain. Questions raced through our minds, was it cancerous? Could they operate and remove it?
Gratefully it was benign, and operable. Obviously we have been at the hospital almost non-stop since we heard the news. Her surgery was Thursday night, and the family was all waiting to hear the news together. The surgeon finally emerged 6.5 hours later, at nearly 1:00 AM. He explained how hard it was, and how it was really impossible for him to truly convey just how difficult this surgery was. He told us there would be a good chance that she wouldn’t be able to talk, or move her right side, and that those things would likely recover with time.
Well, ShaRae kicked that tumors butt! She was talking and moving her right side right after the surgery. The surgeon was so happy when he saw that. She continues to improve, and though she has pain, it’s wonderful to know that after she heals she is going to feel so much better than she had been all this time before.
We are all very exhausted, but very happy.
You may have heard by now, there is a Royal Wedding going on this week! And I have a truly beautiful print to giveaway to one lucky winner. An amazing local printer, Rowley Press, has teamed up with HouseThatLarsBuilt to create these wonderfully illustrated 11×17 processional maps of the upcoming royal wedding of William and Kate.

This print was made using both giclée and letterpress. Printed on Crane Lettra 110# pure cotton paper, then hand fed into an archival pigment ink spewing giclée printer and cranked through a vintage Vandercook letterpress one at a time with the greatest of care, this is a truly special print. Yes, all those in the design world, I heard the gasps! I know you want it to be your own!

How was your Easter weekend? We had a lot of fun, starting on Saturday when we celebrated Easter Eve with my family, and ending on Sunday when we had Easter dinner with my husband’s family. On Saturday we had an egg hunt and colored eggs. This year we tried a 24K Gold egg kit. You can see that the results were quiet pretty! It was messier than usual, because you actually paint the eggs instead of dipping them (which means getting quiet a bit on your fingers while trying to hold the eggs).

We also made our yearly bunny cake, and this year I got us a special treat from Kara’s Chocolates. Bunny shaped petite fours! They were so very tasty! We had never tried petite fours before, but I think they may become a new favorite splurge now and then.

It’s been a rainy and cold spring here, but that hasn’t stopped our garden from blooming. Here is what the front garden looks like now, with more flowers on the way.

The weather has made it hard to get out and weed, and the weeds are loving it! I think the happy little dandelions are cute though (even though I know I will be cursing them very soon).

How was your Easter weekend? What is the weather like in your part of the world?
