Spring sprung a leak!

Spring is here, and with it comes rain, and even a little bit of snow. This of course is a great thing, the flowers in our garden sure are loving it! So are the weeds. My mind is full of ideas and things that I would like to do outside to prepare for the coming warmth and sun.

One thing that I have been noticing in catalogs are TALL planters. I love them. Especially the look and feel of these “shore polyterrazzo planters” from CB2. I want to get two or three and plant pink pampas grass in them. Of course, it would help to have a patio to put them on first (big on the to do list). I also really love the clean white style of these planters.

Another item on the to do list? Planting our food! We have three Earthbox planters that we will use, and we hope to build some garden boxes for square foot gardening. Of course we will plant pumpkins again, and hopefully get another massive one for my husband to sculpt (check out his sculpted pumpkin from last year)!

I can’t wait to get back out into the garden! As much as we love the rain, I’m ready for it to stop so I can go play in the dirt!

So.Much.Fun!

The African dance class I have been taking is almost over. It has been so much fun, and I am sad that it has to end. Last night in class we had a guest teacher/drummer from Congo. It was so much fun to dance and learn from someone who grew up with the dance.

It was also tiring! We really were getting a good workout. About half way in I thought my feet were going to fall right off, but then I realized that I needed to let go and make sure that I was having fun. After all, if you aren’t having fun, you aren’t doing it right!

Plus, when else would I get the chance to experience this particular experience? It’s not likely that I will be visiting Congo anytime in the future. It was interesting to see a different style of teaching as well, because we were learning a rhythm that I had danced before.

This morning I went to Zumba. After almost 2 hours of Congolese dance the night before, my legs were like jelly all during class. Still fun, but I will have to remember not to try that again! :)

Fall down 7, get up 8

Fall down seven times, get up eight. I don’t remember where I first heard this proverb, but I really love it. It doesn’t matter how often we fall down, as long as we get back up.

Walking Away

Good health is a process, not an event, and never is that more true than when you have chronic health conditions. Knowing what works for you, and what doesn’t. Knowing when to stop, and when to challenge yourself more. Understanding that you might not be able to do everything you want to do, but that you can still do an awful lot. It’s all part of learning to live the best life that you possibly can.

I think it’s safe to say that everyone has had something to overcome at some point. An injury, an illness, a super strong sweet tooth… we all have something that we have to learn to balance. Those of us with chronic health issues might have to think about it more often, but really we are all in the same boat. It’s important to treat ourselves, and each other, kindly.

What road blocks have you had to overcome on your path to living well? What things helped you the most?
