Pedometer Lessons

Do you use a pedometer?

I recently started using one called a FitBit and oh the things I have learned! For example, I sit around too much on most days. Yes, I do work from the computer, but it’s really eye opening to see how many steps I get. For example, here is a good day of tracking, though there was still some time left in this day, unless I put in a second workout, there wasn’t much chance of reaching 10,000 steps.

This particular day was one where I was running errands (grocery shopping), and doing laundry. All of these things help a lot in getting extra steps. I did do a walking workout as well, but even with that, you can see I fell short of 10,000.

Th biggest lesson that I have learned through tracking steps is this: efficiency is not great for your health! What?! That’s right, when you are really efficient you take less steps. Case in point, the laundry… I always put all the empty hangers in the basket with the dirty clothes before taking it all down to the laundry room. One trip! Saves time! Oh yeah, it also means less walking up and down the stairs… oops! That just cuts out valuable steps on the pedometer! :)

So, in response to my pedometer I have been trying to make more trips around the house. Certainly I have been trying to at least stand up more than I sit, even if I am not actually walking at the time, it’s still better than sitting.

What about you? Have you used a pedometer? What lessons did you learn?

Friends, food, fun.

By , April 14, 2011

It seems that our site issues are resolved (fingers crossed), though you will still notice some changes here, such as the super simple theme, and comments closing after a week. Otherwise all should be normal!

This past weekend was a full of friends, food, and fun. There was even a free concert thrown in the mix (Sugar Ray), and a fireworks show that lasted over 20 mins! Pretty amazing considering it was all outside and it had been snowing all weekend off and on. Luckily the weather cleared off perfectly by the time Sugar Ray took the stage. It was clear, and actually a little bit warm.

Not the greatest video, as I was moving to try to get the camera in a good angle, but you can see Mark McGrath. By the way, are you watching Celebrity Apprentice? Another funny thing is that by the end of the concert we had moved back behind the stage area because we were looking around for a funny red Pontiac limo we had seen early. The fireworks started and we took our cameras out to get a shot of the fireworks when who comes walking past? Yep, Mark McGrath! Heath caught him in a few fireworks photos by accident. I yelled out a big “thanks for coming” but he didn’t hear me. So I tweeted to him that night that he rocked on the cowbell, and that he walked right past us but didn’t hear my thank you. He tweeted back:

Not sure why he has Steel Pulse as his avatar, but they are a great band!

The great thing about friends coming into town is that it gives a great excuse to try a new place to eat. Of course, even better than that is being able to reconnect and catch up with friends. Heath and I also decided to try a new place over the weekend, Happy Sumo. Their specialty is sushi, but since my hubby can’t eat fish, we both tried different kinds of chicken dishes. The food was good, but pricey. The mochi balls were great though (but again, pricey).

The weather has been off and on, but I was able to get out a few days and walk outside again. I have this amazing app that tracks your speed and miles, which makes it so much fun too. Turns out I walk a lot faster than I thought! On the “dreadmill” I usually walk around 2.7, but out in “Nature’s Gym” I usually go 3.7 or more. Of course, we have our treadmill on an incline the entire time, but still, it’s funny to see the difference. I can’t wait for the weather to be consistently nice so I can play outside everyday!

What’s new in your world?

Jell-o inside a citrus peel.

By , April 10, 2011

What a great idea! I happen to love Jell-o! It’s a lot of fun, and there are always new and interesting ways to serve it. When I saw these adorable citrus slices with Jell-o inside, I knew that I had to share! The idea and full instructions can be found at Crazy Domestic.

Fun trivia item about Jell-o and Utah. Did you know that the wiggly stuff is the “state snack food“? And during the 2002 Winter Olypmics there were even special Jell-o themed pins. Yes friends, we love our Jell-o!

What about you, do you enjoy a bit of the jiggly stuff?

Tech troubles.

By , April 8, 2011

Oh my! We are having server problems once again and trying to figure it all out. Thank goodness my husband is a tech genius, because though I know a thing or two, some of the issues have been beyond my knowledge base. What this means for now… comments are closed on this and our other site. We are trying to stop naughty bots from coming to visit. It means that posting will likely not be happening for a bit until we get things worked out (we are doing what we can to prevent a total shut down and loss again). It also means that I am repeating my mantra quiet often; it’s only pixels, it’s only pixels.

In other news, this month is National Grilled Cheese Month. I love grilled cheese, so I just have to celebrate somehow. Check out this awesomeness: jalapeno popper sandwich! Get in my belly!

It’s also my favorite time of year. SPRING! Things are blooming in the garden, and Easter is this month too!

So, while things may be taking a break around here for a bit while we figure out what is going on and how to fix it, you can still find me posting at Care2, and I will still be visiting your blogs when I can. Speaking of Easter, come visit what I wrote about Easter and bunnies. I sure hope people will think long and hard before buying a bunny (or chick) at Easter time. A chocolate bunny or a stuffed bunny would make a much better choice unless you are truly prepared for having a new furry friend, and all that comes with it.

Hopping off for a bit, and hope to see you again soon!
