Hungry Halloween Terrarium

By , October 10, 2011

Terrariums are always a lot of fun and are something that I have loved for as long as I can remember. Also something that I have found interesting for as long as I can remember? Venus Fly Traps! So of course I knew exactly what I wanted to do in my terrarium for Halloween this year!

Luckily Venus Fly Traps are easy to find this time of year. And yes, if you don’t have bugs in your home, you do need to feed them a little meat from time to time. They are also perfect for terrarium living because they like humid, bog like conditions.

I just added a bit of spooky looking moss, and of course, a bunch of eyeballs, to make the scene complete.

Paper mum fall wreath.

Last year I bought an adorable paper mum wreath kit from PaperSource.com. Winter came before I had a chance to make it, so I was determined not to let this year pass without it getting made! It was a lot of fun to do, time consuming to be sure, but it was fun to see the flowers coming together.

Mums in the making! The kit comes with everything except double stick tape and a bone folder. I didn’t have a bone folder so I just used a butter knife instead. I’m sure it would have worked a lot better with the proper tool, but it still worked! Here is what my wreath looks like:

This year they have a really cute paper wreath with an owl in the middle, more Halloween than fall. I like this one though since it will be able to stay up all the way through the end of November! :)

Fun Fall Jar Project

By , October 3, 2011

Way back in 2005, we needed a fun project to keep our minds off of the fact that our little dog was having her spay surgery (waiting is the worst). It was fall, and there was an abundance of dried leaves in the yard. So of course I knew that we needed to make a fun fall “lamp”!

Sweatshirt BabyUsing cream tissue paper, leaves, and ModPoge (plus a string of white twinkle lights), the fun fall lamp was created. In the daytime when the lights aren’t on, it just looks like a jar covered in paper, it isn’t until you turn the lights on that the leaves really show up. That is exactly how I wanted it. If you made one, you could cover the entire outside with just leaves, or maybe leave some of the glass open and not covered. The possibilities are many!

Fall projectI’m thinking of making another fun jar like this for Christmas, and Valentine’s Day. There are so many ways that this could be done, and it’s a nice way to reuse old jars that you would otherwise throw out!
