Artisan Pizza and Flatbread in Five Minutes a Day

I adore pizza, and so of course I was so excited to hear that this book came out. We have always loved the Artisan Bread in Five Minutes a Day book, and use it whenever we want to make bread from scratch, so I couldn’t wait to get my hands on Artisan Pizza and Flatbread in Five Minutes a Day!

I am happy to be able to share a little insight from one of the authors, Jeff Hertzberg.

Q: Pizza, especially homemade, is a favorite of ours. We were excited when your book came out because we have loved using the 5 Minutes a Day system for breads. What makes Artisan Pizza and Flatbreads in 5 min. a day different from other pizza recipes our readers may have tried?

A: Biggest difference is that it’s based on our stored dough, and that changes everything? Why? Because you’ll actually make it often, since you mix once, but bake many times. All the initial work’s divided over 8 pizzas or flatbreads for our standard-sized batch that stores up to two weeks.

Q: If our readers were to try just one item in the book, what would it be?

A: I love the soppressata pizza– it’s a spicy Italian sausage, and if you love pepperoni, this is a more refined and wonderful way to get acquainted with traditional Italian meat products. It’s a basic tomato and cheese pizza, but we used a wonderful medium-firm Italian cheese called piave. The beauty of this is that you can use pretty much whatever cheese strikes your fancy.

Q: What do you think the most fun part of creating pizzas is?

A: One word: improvisation! See what’s fresh in the market, see what’s growing in your refrigerator (just kidding!). But really, use our recipes as a starting point, and this kind of cooking can fuel your creative impulses.

Recipes include:

Classic Pizza Margherita
Chicago-style deep-dish pizza
Mexican corn flatbread with tomatillo and chillies
Grogonzola and pear tart (Great Fall recipe!)
Breakfast pizza with prosciutto, parmigiano and egg
Pocket pizzas for parties and school lunches (great for kids)
Dessert tarts and sweet doughs (Party ideas)

US! Celebrating the Power of Friendship

Artist and author Mary Anne Radmacher has a fun new book; Us!: Celebrating the Power of Friendship. Not only did I get a chance to review the book myself, but I have two copies to giveaway to two lucky readers! I loved everything about it, and it now sits on my coffee table, ready and willing to be read by all friends who enter.

“When we have a circle of friends, we have more fun. We get more done, we feel and are stronger, and we really do celebrate the power of our ‘us.’”  – Mary Anne Radmacher

Mary Anne’s new book is specifically designed as a gift to be shared with the friends who help to define and enrich our lives. It is a beautiful little volume, featuring Mary Anne’s signature artwork, along with quotes, aphorism, poems and meditations on the power and importance of our relationships. It is an ideal gift idea for those friends who mean the most. Such a sweet gift to give (and receive)!

Here is a short essay from Mary Anne that I get to share with you! I loved this because I am one of the lucky ones who gets to count family as friends!

LUCKY, Lucky You…

I laugh as I remember my husband’s question as he listened to his friend relate a great experience he had.   He asked, “Isn’t that guy a relative of yours?”  His friend replied affirmatively and asked, “Why?”   My husband expressed that it is outside his experience that somebody would have such a dynamic friendship with someone they are related to.

Are YOU lucky enough to have  “Family as Friend?”

Are you fortunate enough to LIKE the people to whom you are related?  If that one relative were not a blood-relation, would you choose them as a friend?  If that is so, have you told them as much?   Try it.  Mention something like,

“I thought about you today.  I recognize how blessed I am to be related to you.  Essentially we are a “double header” because we are family AND I consider you one of my finest friends.”

Maybe this is a simple understanding between you that remains unspoken.  The opportunity for loving and supportive words is available at every turn: utilize it.

If you would like a chance to win a copy of the book for yourself, please leave a comment on this post before midnight on November 18th, 2011. Why is friendship important in your life?

Giveaway: Tropical Traditions Moisturizing Lotion

Now that cold weather is on the way, my skin is always in need of lotion to keep from cracking. Actually, my skin is always dry, sometimes to the point of bleeding, so I’m always on the look out for a great lotion! I was really excited to get a chance to try Tropical Traditions moisturizing lotion in peppermint. Not only does it smell wonderful and invigorating, it also makes my hands so soft!

I love that it is made with coconut oil and other natural ingredients. I have often read about how important it is to make sure you use the best things on your skin since our skin is so good at absorbing things. This lotion also absorbs into my skin quickly, which feels so wonderful when my skin becomes especially dry after working in the garden!

The lotions come scented with essential oils, or you can choose unscented as well. And from what I have discovered, a little can go a long way. The lotion can be used anywhere on the body.

Would you like a chance to try some for yourself?

One lucky reader will get an 8oz bottle in their choice of scent. To enter: Leave a comment on this post before midnight on October 20th. This giveaway is for those in the USA. You may comment daily, so to make it fun, tell me a joke or something else that is funny. Get additional entries by subscribing to Tropical Traditions newsletter, or follow them on Twitter @troptraditions. Please leave an additional comment for each extra entry.

Thanks to Tropical Traditions for providing the product for my review and the prize for giveaway.
