A sweet treat.

By Aimee, March 9, 2010 8:08 pm

I first learned of The Sweet Tooth Fairy through reading Stephanie’s blog (NieNie). She had mentioned that there was a local cupcake shop that had named a cupcake in her honor. Well, being a complete and utter vanilla lover, I had been thinking of the vaNIElla Squared cupcakes ever since.

I finally had a little free time to make the trek down to The Sweet Tooth Fairy shop (it’s not that far away, but it does take time to get there). I bought two cupcakes and put them in the fridge until my hubby came home. Once dinner was over, the special treat came out and I wasn’t even able to snap a photo. My hubby and I were both too ready to bite into them. They did not disappoint! Here is what they look like:

There is a very yummy coconut flavor in with the vanilla. The frosting is super rich, and the cake very moist. A yummy cupcake indeed. I can see why they are a favorite of Miss Stephanie. There were a lot of other tasty looking treats in the shop too. It’s certainly an indulgence though, as they are a bit expensive, but as a special treat it is worth the price.

On a side note, I saw Stephanie at Target around Christmas time. We were both in the Christmas decoration section, and it was super busy in the store. She had the most adorable coat on, and she is also very pretty. I didn’t talk to her of course (after all, I don’t actually know her) but in a way it felt like a “celebrity spotting” moment. ;)

I did!

Eight years ago on this day, I said “I do”! It’s hard to imagine that it’s been that long, and yet it feels like we have always been together.

He is my best friend, my ultimate supporter, and favorite adventure companion. I love him even more today than I did 8 years ago (and I thought I loved him tons then!). I can’t wait to see what new adventures the next 8 years and beyond will bring!

Habitat for Humanity, in Haiti

By Aimee, February 17, 2010 9:15 am

I just found out about a wonderful program that Habitat for Humanity is running. They are taking donations to build homes in Haiti. I honestly wasn’t aware that they did work outside of the USA, but it turns out that they build homes all over the world, wherever there is a need. Obviously the need in Haiti is overwhelming.

It’s hard to imagine that it’s been a month now since the earthquakes there. I hope that if you have a little extra money, and feel that what they are doing is a good cause, you will consider donating. I have added a banner to Habitat’s Haiti effort on my sidebar as well to make it easy to find. When they are able to do so, they will build Core Houses, which cost about $4,000-$6,000 each. You can read about them and the benefits by clicking here, and be sure to take a moment to watch the video too (wow).

Random Goodies

By Aimee, February 11, 2010 8:11 am

First up, gorgeous goodies from the equally gorgeous Jenny. The camera necklace is a new favorite, especially with the chain made of little love hearts. You can get one too in her shop. I also have to say that opening the envelope was so much fun. You can see what was inside, including handmade envelopes. The packaging was as lovely as the actual goodies within it!

Gorgeous goodies.

While the East coast of the nation has been snowed in, and the West coast rained out, we here in the Rockies have been enjoying a fairly mild winter. It’s been cold, but above freezing for the most part. The sun has been out so much that trees and bulbs are starting to show signs of spring, even though it’s still just February.

Signs of spring!

I got some adorable, and very real looking, chocolate eggs in Valentine’s Day colors. They really do look like you could eat them, but sadly, they are not edible. Also, a pink toaster, complete with different plates to make love themed toast arrived as well.

In addition to everything else, I have been trying to work on a major spring clean. It feels good to pare down and live with just those things that are beautiful, useful, or otherwise bring joy. It also feels great to let things go, knowing that they can find new life in someone else’s house. Something about spring like weather, and also just being stuck in the house instead of being able to play in the garden, lends itself to doing a clear out.

Plus, nothing feels quiet as nice as a clean house! ;)

Kitchen, life, and other things.

By Aimee, February 9, 2010 4:19 pm

It’s been busy here to say the least. Between ripping out the old counters, then putting the kitchen back together (still have the back splash to do), family visits, and school… plus all the other things that go on in the course of a day, I have been busy. Luckily, things should be slowing down again back to a more normal pace, especially once we get the back splash put in and the kitchen is truly done. I can’t wait for that, I miss things like my toaster (all the plugs are out), rice cooker, and especially my slow cooker!

Oui, oui!

Somewhere within all the craziness I was able to put up a fun wall decal. The photo shows the view from the kitchen. It’s a lot more fun to look up from preparing meals and see the Eiffel Tower than to see a blank white wall. Easy little changes can make a big difference, can’t they? It’s a fun change, and the good news is if we get tired of it we can easily peel it off.

Also, we saw Avatar. In 3D. Amazingly cool, and of course now I want my entire garden to look like the world of Pandora.
