Plank a Day Challenge!

By , March 1, 2012

Recently I discovered that my routine is seriously lacking in the muscle building department. Give me a couple hours of African dance and I can shake my booty with energy to spare! Try to do a pushup however, and I am at a total loss. So with that in mind I am going to do a “Plank-a-Day” challenge this month to try to build my core muscles.

Basically the challenge is exactly what it sounds like. One plank, each day, for as long as you can hold it. I did my first one last night and got near a minute.

Please note, I am not talking about this kind of plank (pretty sure I could hold this for much longer):

There is a great description on how to do a plank here (they also have videos on the site which are worth a look if you haven’t done the move before). It’s not the same as doing one in yoga practice where you are on your hands, but rather you rest your arms on the floor. There are even variations when it becomes easier.

Are you in? It would be fun to have lots of people doing it this month too!

I love my Honda. Also, I’m bad at math.

While thinking about things I am grateful for my car came to mind. After all, it’s a little old, but it runs amazingly well and other than new tires and an air conditioning leak (that only started 2 years ago mind you), the car hasn’t needed anything major. Anyway, this frame of thought led me to tweet something about it, bad math included!

Of course I was surprised to hear back, especially that they wanted to see a photo! Well, I did indeed find an old photo of the day I actually got my car. Then I took a photo of it (obviously different times of the year/different places). Oh, and then I broke out the calculator and checked my math and was embarrassed that I wrote 14 years when it’s actually 15 years old! At any rate, the car has held up beautifully, inside and out. If only I could say the same for myself!

I plan to drive it until it absolutely dies and won’t run anymore. And of course when that day comes, I hope to replace it with another Honda. :)

What about your car? How long have you had it?

Outside the box!

My friend Daynia shared this on Facebook yesterday, and it made me very happy. This is the ultimate in thinking outside of the box! Going for what you really want despite odds and naysayers. Watch if you want a smile! :)

Ten Year Anniversary!

By , February 22, 2012

Ten years ago this month my husband and I got married! We didn’t do the traditional route at all! In fact, I didn’t even wear a wedding dress. We got married, had a little lunch at our favorite pizza place with our family and closest friends, then went on our married way. It was a perfect, low key, low stress way to celebrate the start of our lives together. We sent out “we got married” postcards after to announce it.

The month was a busy one for us. Not only did we officially get engaged, start moving things to our apartment, but it was also the Winter Olympics. I was a torch bearer, which was so much fun and something I will never forget. We attended the USA Women’s hockey game on Valentine’s day, and they won! We spent a lot of time glued to our televisions watching Apollo Ono win, and enjoyed all the winter sports. I had a fun wedding shower, and of course, the actual BIG DAY!

It’s mind blowing to realize that it’s been 10 years already. Time goes by so fast, and yet at the same time it doesn’t seem like it should already be that long.

The traditional gift for ten years is tin. I’m still trying to figure out something clever that relates to that, even though the big day has come and gone. Any ideas? :)
