Whippy Pies

Lately I have been seeing “Whoopie Pies” all over the web. They look delicious, but honestly I have never tried to make one. I even found this adorable cookbook, Whoopie Pies, that I put on my Christmas wishlist. Even though I never made one, they kept coming to my mind over and over again. Enter the Cool Whip, and my own little creation, the “Whippy Pie”!

Whippy Pie Makings

Easy, easy! We already had some great chocolate chip cookies made up, and of course, a nice big tub of Cool Whip left over from the Thanksgiving holiday. Two cookies, some whip for the inside, and there you have it! A “Whippy Pie”! And it was very tasty! And probably a lot less calories as well!!

Whippy Pie

Always fun to use what is already in the kitchen to make something new and tasty! What about you, have you made Whoppie Pies?

Five day weekend!

You read that right, a 5 day weekend is being had as I type! My husband has a good job (one of many things we are thankful for this year), and they give everyone the day after Thanksgiving off. Being the smart cookie that he is, he takes the day before Thanksgiving off too, thus affording himself a luxurious 5 day weekend!

Begging at the table.

Baby especially loves the holidays when she gets very spoiled. Yes, she gets to indulge in some “people food” on holidays. Her favorites this year? Rolls (of course), green beans with melted Velveeta cheese, and turkey. As you can see, she is particularly good at the “I’m here looking cute, so give me what I want” routine. And really, who could resist those little eyes?

Ice!

It has also been very, very, very, cold here! Today I noticed some fun ice formations in the garden, including the above which to me look like ice grapes. Hot chocolate will be flowing freely around here for the next few months.

We didn’t participate in Black Friday at all. I do love the idea of supporting Small Business Saturday though! But then, I always love to support the underdogs! What about you? Did you get into the Black Friday madness? Or did you sleep in and enjoy the day off?

Harleys and Marleys

We got together with family on Friday night and we went to the Harley Davidson shop for dinner. I know, what?! Food, at a motorcycle shop? Yes! They have a fun restaurant connected to the shop called Marley’s. They serve sliders and frozen custard. I got the turkey and bacon slider, while everyone else got burgers and turkey sliders. They also have shoe string fries, and of course, fry sauce! It was yummy. After we had eaten, they actually brought everyone a small cup of custard. It was banana flavored and really tasty. Some of us had actually ordered custard, so it was an extra treat! The vanilla is my favorite.

Sadly, the shop had closed before we got there, so we didn’t get to see all the fun bikes and other stuff (except what we could see through the windows). Something awesome about this shop is that they made it almost completely from old materials from the Geneva steel mill. Because of that it looks really old, and very cool. There was a lot to look at inside, they did a great job designing it.

Time with family, good food, and groovy surroundings? Doesn’t get much better than that!

#43, cook and blog

Number 43 on my 101 list says “Cook two recipes from each of our cookbooks and blog about it”. Anyone want to venture a guess at how many cookbooks I have? Honestly, I don’t even know. It’s a lot though. So, the first recipes comes from the book Hungry Girl: 200 Under 200: 200 Recipes Under 200 Calories.

We have been trying to be a lot healthier all around, but every so often a person still needs something sweet! I thought it would be a perfect time to try this low calorie “shake”. We even ate it outside, which helped beat the heat. The recipe is called the HG’s Chocolate Chip Cookie Crisp Puddin’ Shake, and you can find the recipe by clicking that link if you want to make your own. However, the recipe in the book is different from the site in that the chocolate almond breeze isn’t listed in the book. It’s just listed as chocolate soy milk.

It was interesting. I really wasn’t sure what to expect, especially since I hadn’t eaten Cookie Crisp cereal before. The “shake” doesn’t really have the texture of a milk shake, but it was still yummy. The one tip I have is to blend it really well, and to make the individual servings. I made a double batch, which seemed easier, but it didn’t blend as well so my portion was a lot thicker and more cereal flavored than Heath’s was.

Not a bad way to have something sweet while not loading up on calories though!
