When we went to Las Vegas for my birthday, we didn’t have plans for what we would do. We knew a few things that were must sees, but many of the things we did were complete surprises. One of those happy surprises was the Titanic Exhibit at the hotel we stayed in (Luxor). We didn’t even know that it was there until we got a coupon book at check in, but we both really enjoyed it.
Of course, they don’t allow you to take any photos (I found these images online). However, if you are in Las Vegas, and have the time and money to visit the exhibit, it is well worth it. They did an amazing job! You walk through many rooms that are made to look like the Titanic would have looked. There are also rooms where you just see artifacts and read about the history. One of the most amazing things is that they even recreated the grand staircase! Wow! And it is just amazing what has been recovered, and how much of it is still intact after all those years under water.

They hand you a boarding pass when you enter, and it has a name on it of a real Titanic passenger. At the end of the exhibit there is a huge wall of names, and you can check to see if your passenger lived or not. I have to admit, that was pretty powerful. My passenger survived (she was in First Class, and her maid survived too, but her dog, and her husband, did not survive). Could you imagine having to board a life boat and leave behind your husband? So many of the women had to do just that because they had women board first.
Also, right before the end there is an “iceberg” in a room that is cold. They encourage you to touch it too. They even recreated the promenade, and made it really dark with stars in the sky, just like the night of the collision.
Even more amazing though? They had an actual piece of the Titanic. It was massive! And yet, it was such a small piece when it was shown on the entire ship.

This photo doesn’t even really show just how big it was. The room had a movie about the recovery of the piece, and of course some information about how it gets moved around. The exhibit is in Las Vegas for 10 years (it’s been there for 2 already). Really, worth every penny!
Have you seen the Titanic Exhibit in other places? What did you think of it?
