Mountain High

We are super lucky. We live really close to some of the most beautiful mountains, and on Saturday we got to spend some time enjoying them with family from out of town. I only wish that I had been feeling 100% well, it would have made it even more enjoyable. Nothing beats time in the mountains though!

It felt so nice to wade in the water at the bottom of the falls. We hadn’t planned for hiking (wearing flip flops and all), so we didn’t go up to the top of the falls, but it was a nice stroll up the trail. The whole thing just made me crave a good hike though, which sadly didn’t happen.

Both my husband and I need new mountain bikes so we can enjoy even more of the fun that our mountains have to offer. Luckily we both have feet that work, so at the very least we can hike. And we both decided that we really don’t take advantage of what they have to offer nearly as much as we should. Do you do that too with what your home town has to offer?

Funny story. While we were there I thought I saw a friend from High School. However, we were in different parts of the falls, so I couldn’t really get a proper look at her face, or try to talk to her. Later on when I got on Facebook I saw that she had indeed been there! Not only that, but there in her photo uploads was a photo with me and my husband in it! She didn’t realize it when she took it. Crazy, right?!

Also, there was a wedding being set up. Perfect really. The waterfall is called Bridal Veil Falls after all.

The Homestead

Back in the first part of June, we had family from out of town come to visit. It was so much fun, even if the weather felt more like winter than summer! On one of the days we went to  The Homestead. The men golfed, while the women swam indoors, played shuffle board (or rather, tried), and explored the crater a bit. I hadn’t been there since I was about 3 or so, which was way too long! The one thing I remember most about The Homestead is the garden, and it didn’t seem to me to have changed much at all. Click images to see full size.

The crater is one of the most unique things about the resort. You can scuba dive in it, or you can just go for a float. We didn’t do either, but we did go inside and look up at the sky through the crater. The other crazy thing is, the water is coming from a hot spring, so it’s always 90-94 degrees! There are a lot of hot springs in the area, but it’s pretty awesome nonetheless.

I can’t believe it was the first time we had gone, especially because we are “founders club members” there. That means free golf and swimming for life. You would think we would go all the time! Of course, I don’t really golf, but my husband does.

After the day at The Homestead we stopped off at a local greasy spoon for dinner. I had fish and chips which were very good, and we shared a root beer float. Of course the best part was spending time together as family and friends.

Scottish Fest

We went to a Scottish Festival on Friday night. It was a lot of fun, and it was also very cold! We have been having rain, and 50 degree weather, despite the fact that it’s JUNE! As you can see, this merry group of kilts and bagpipes are getting all wet.

Also, we got some treats that they don’t sell here in the states. Why we don’t get to have things like this in our regular shops I will never know, but Nestle, start selling Aero here in America please!! This is the mint version and it is so very tasty.

There was also a very fun concert from a group called the Wicked Tinkers. They rocked! It was really high energy and fun, even if we were totally freezing cold. We even had our winter coats on for heavens sake! Because it was cold and raining, a lot of the shops weren’t open and we didn’t see any Highland games either. We did have some fish and chips though! And no, we did not eat haggis.
