A few photos of fall in our yard this year. First, our flowering pear tree, it turns the most wonderful shade of gold, with reds and pinks mixed in.

This bird nest was much bigger over the summer, but the birds have left for the coming winter. I wonder if they will come back and rebuild?

So many walnuts! And more to be gathered. These also need to be opened (and many of them are still in their husks). The walnut tree did well this year.

And lastly, a little afternoon sunshine coming through the leaves. It was more impressive in person, with the tree really lit up! Sadly, a camera can’t capture everything the way the eye can. Still very pretty though.

What is fall like in your neck of the woods?
Back in September I planted some fall crops! I checked on them today, and we have some broccoli starting to show. The broccoli that I planted is called “early dividends”, and is supposed to get crops in 45 days. It’s been longer than that to be sure, but we have had some odd weather as well. Anyway, I was excited to see the broccoli, and am hopeful that we will be eating some very soon.

Two really fun pumpkin images have been making their way into my email box, so I have to share them with you just in case you haven’t seen them. Truly amazing!

And what would a post about pumpkins be without a few pumpkin recipes?
- My friend Amy recently posted this recipe for pumpkin cupcakes and I have been thinking about them ever since!
- My favorite pumpkin cookie recipe! They are very soft and moist.
- I haven’t tried roasting pumpkin seeds before, but it sounds like it could be good.
- And this recipe has nothing to do with pumpkins, but it is a great Halloween cake that I really want to make. Check out the Halloween marble cake from Zoe Bakes.
