On my walk.

By , September 8, 2010

Just a nice view of the things I see while I take my morning walk. Working out in “natures gym” has it’s perks. I will be sad when winter comes and it’s far too cold to enjoy these walks, but until then, I am loving every second.

And one very friendly horse, who wouldn’t stand still long enough for me to take a proper photo. He came running over to see if I had any snacks for him (I didn’t), and was following me along his fence the rest of the time I walked past.

Now open!

A ride up the canyon.

By , August 3, 2010

Well, my week with “Big Red” is almost over, so I had to give her a real big test. I took her up the trail to the canyon. I wanted to do this for one big reason. The very big hill! I was super curious about how the motor assist would be on the big hill. Would it make going up it easier? Would there be no difference at all? It totally made it easier! Despite having not biked up that hill in years, I was able to do it without having to get off and walk the bike up.

The total ride was about 10 miles. The trail is paved, so it was perfect for the cruiser style bike. It felt great to have a leisurely ride too, with perfect weather that was a bit overcast and not hot at all in the canyon. As always, there are plenty of fun things to see when you take a ride up the canyon. Here is the list from today:

  • Two “Vote for Pedro” tees.
  • Seven or more squirrels. Lost count.
  • One bunny.
  • One small snake.
  • And a brand new to me park.

Now, I just have to find some hidden treasure or a money tree because it’s going to be hard to give “Big Red” back to the awesome people who let me use her for a week. Going back to my non-powered bike is going to be so strange! This powered bike would be amazing as an alternative form of transportation though! I really wish our city was more bike-able.

Mountain High

By , August 1, 2010

We are super lucky. We live really close to some of the most beautiful mountains, and on Saturday we got to spend some time enjoying them with family from out of town. I only wish that I had been feeling 100% well, it would have made it even more enjoyable. Nothing beats time in the mountains though!

It felt so nice to wade in the water at the bottom of the falls. We hadn’t planned for hiking (wearing flip flops and all), so we didn’t go up to the top of the falls, but it was a nice stroll up the trail. The whole thing just made me crave a good hike though, which sadly didn’t happen.

Both my husband and I need new mountain bikes so we can enjoy even more of the fun that our mountains have to offer. Luckily we both have feet that work, so at the very least we can hike. And we both decided that we really don’t take advantage of what they have to offer nearly as much as we should. Do you do that too with what your home town has to offer?

Funny story. While we were there I thought I saw a friend from High School. However, we were in different parts of the falls, so I couldn’t really get a proper look at her face, or try to talk to her. Later on when I got on Facebook I saw that she had indeed been there! Not only that, but there in her photo uploads was a photo with me and my husband in it! She didn’t realize it when she took it. Crazy, right?!

Also, there was a wedding being set up. Perfect really. The waterfall is called Bridal Veil Falls after all.
